Ron Spicer, son of George Spicer, used to sing a music hall song called 'I'm Just Beginning to Sprout'.

As a child I decided that the only way to deal with sprouts was to swallow them whole. The resulting bruised throat was worth enduring as it allowed me to leave the table instead of spending much of Sunday afternoon staring at a plate of sprouts in congealing gravy.
