The only information I have is that it is one of a set of carols collected by Bob Patten and Andrew Taylor from Charley Williams from Brockweir in the 70s. The other carols included well-known ones such as The Holly and the Ivy, The Virgin Unspotted and a wassail song. I have sourced all the others except this one, which appears to be a one-off. The tune is a rather 4-square 4 to the bar melody. Charley passed away in the 1980s and there is no-one now in Brockweir that could shed light on it. Interesting, though. Thanks.
