Subject: RE: BS: Greatest Love Story?
I think I prefer more 'ordinary' love stories to the great ones. Some of my favourites:

Collete 'Cheri' and 'The Last of Cheri' - a Mature French courtesan and her younger lover, and the death of an age of innocent indulgence.
Alain Fornier 'Les Grande Meulnes' - the death of a potent dream of love, which carries a whole country of 'otherness', upon the reality of capturing it.
Molly Keane 'Devoted Ladies' - obsessive psycho-sexual powerplay between 20's lesbian lovers.
'Great Expectations' - for Estelle, the only psychologically mature young woman Dickens ever penned.

As for 'greats' I don't think anyones mentioned 'Gone With the Wind' or 'Wuthering Heights' yet? All good melodramatic fun.
