I think there's room for both. In fact, I've written a poem on the subject:

There is Morris AND there is Haka;
Lennon is fine BUT so is Macca.
There are croissants AND there is toast
And, when England is playing host,
It is the visiting tourist's wish
To have some chips BUT ALSO some fish.
(This poem may seem bland and trite,
But at least it rhymes and it also very nearly scans, although not quite.)
