Well, the way I've always figgered it, Bobert, the South had one real good chance of winning that war, and this was it: They shouldn't made a lightning advance right into Washington D.C. immediately after First Bull Run, occupied the danged capitol, and maybe even took Lincoln prisoner. That would've done it. Nip the war in the bud before the Yankees knew what hit 'em. There was nuthin' to stop the Army of Virginia from marching into Washington after Bull Run, not like a year or two later when the place was surrounded by forts and massively protected. Yup, that was their chance.

But they didn't take it. They were happy enough to have successfully resisted an invasion attempt and won themselves a battle in the field. Them boys just didn't think big enough.

Now the deer...that's a tougher case. My feeling is that they are unstoppable.
