Just a not-so-minor point, here. I watched the newscasts on the night of November 4th, and when it was clear that Obama had won, I saw footage of people literally dancing in the streets, first in Seattle, then all over the country. Although there was a racial mix in the celebrants, they reflected the demographics of the country, which is to say most of them were white.

I believe the whole country has taken a step forward on the road to civilization.
