DON'T assume that fructose, lactose, corn syrup, maple syrup, sucrose, or anything else like that is different than plain old glucose-based sugar (roughly C6H22O11). The body converts all of them into -- GLUCOSE! And it stores the stuff as glycocides in your liver, which releases them when the body thinks it needs the energy stored in them. Normally this is handled by insulin, but if your Insulin Works (a small factory located on the sunny Isles of Langerhans) has messed up its productivity then you have some type of diabetes. Type II means that the workers have screwed up production, but you can't complain to the management or the Union so you have to bring in outside help, like diet or exercise or Metformin.

This is different from Type I, where the Union has simply gone on a walk-out strike and you have to use scabs (called injectable insulin).
