I had pretty much the same taste in rock/pop music as you, up to a certain point in time but no further. I, too, loved Eric Burden and the Animals, Jefferson Airplane, the Kinks, and Cream, but none of the more recent bands you cite (except for Phish ~ I haven't been a real deeply-involved fan, but what I've heard of 'em I've enjoyed).

Now, the Grateful Dead, that's something else again entirely. Loved 'em from the first I ever heard of 'em and ever since, right through the various subsequent pop eras that never caught my attention, like punk, glam, metal, etc., etc. ~ more of a taste for mind-blowing than head-banging...
