It was six men of Indostan to learning much inclined,
Who went to see the palindrome though all of them were blind,
That each by observation might satisfy his mind.

The First approached the palindrome, and happening to fall
Against his last three characters, at once began to bawl:
'God bless me! But the palindrome has no symmetry at all!'

The Second, feeling of the front, cried, 'Ho! What have we here?
The thing begins with 256? To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of a palindrome is binary, my dear!'

The Third approached the plaindrome, and happening to take
The middle digits in his grasp, thus boldly up and spake:
'I see,' quoth he, 'the palindrome is surely on the take!'

The Fourth reached out an eager hand, and felt about the whole,
Quoth he, "This mighty palindrome is vexed, upon my soul!
It goeth there and cometh here, a rock that is a roll!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the end, began to swear and glower
He cried, "I see it plainly, having felt it for an hour;
This marvel of an palindrome is pi to some odd power!'

The Sixth no sooner had begun about the thing to try,
than, seizing on the second pair of digits, gave a cry:
'I see,' quoth he, 'the plaindrome's the inverse squate of i!'

And so these men of Indostan disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right, and all were in the wrong!

Moral:

So oft in theologic wars, the disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance of what each other mean,
And prate about a palindrome not one of them has seen!
