Thread Name: Lyr Req: Mick McGuire (Clancy Brothers)
Subject: Chords Add: MICK MAGUIRE
Although someone on this site made some disparaging remarks about the Irish Rovers, I've always found them to be a very entertaining band, and their CDs are a great source of material because everyone wants to sing along. Here is their version of Mick Maguire; I worked out the chords by referring to the fiddle tune called "Napoleon Crossing the Rocky Mountains", after finding a reference to the connection on this thread. Cool, eh? Thanks for the help.

MICK MAGUIRE

Dm F C
Me name is Mick Maguire and I'll quickly tell to you
Dm C
Of a girl that I admired, she was Katie Donohue
Dm F C
She was fair and fat and forty and believe me when I say
Dm C Dm
Whenever I come in at the door, you could hear her Mammy say

F
Johnny get up from the fire, get up, and give yer man a seat
Dm C
Can't you see it's Mick Maguire and he's courtin' your sister Kate
Dm F
You know very well he owns a farm a wee bit out o' the
C
town
Dm C Dm
Ach, get out of that, ye impudent brat, let Mr. Maguire sit down

Well the first time I met her was at a dance at Donaghadee
I very kindly asked her would she dance a step with me
I asked if I could see her home, if she'd be goin' me way
But whenever I come in at the door, you could hear the ould one say

Johnny get up from the fire, get up, and give yer man a seat
Can't you see it's Mick Maguire and he's courtin' your sister Kate
You know very well he owns a farm a wee bit out o' the town
Ach, get out of that, ye impudent brat, let Mr. Maguire sit down

Ah but now that we are married, her Mam has changed her mind
Because I spent the money that me Daddy left behind
That she hasn't got the dacency to give me time of the day
And whenever I come in at the door, you can hear her Mammy say

Johnny come up to the fire, come up, you're sittin' in a draft
Can't you see it's ould Maguire, and he nearly drives me daft
Sure I don't know what gets in him and he's always on the tear
So just sit where ye are, and never you dare, give ould Maguire the chair

Diddley oudl oudl oudl oudl Diddley oudl dow
Diddley oudl oudl oudl oudl Diddley oudl dow
Sure I don't know what gets in him and he's always on the tear
So just sit where ye are, and never you dare, give ould Maguire the chair

Diddley oudl oudl oudl oudl Diddley oudl dow
Diddley oudl oudl oudl oudl Diddley oudl dow
Sure I don't know what gets in him and he's always on the tear
So just sit where ye are, and never you dare [clap clap] give ould Maguire the chair

Great song! Enjoy!
