One of the songs Sam is best known for in NZ is here:

Although the original was written by Peter Cape, Sam used to sing it and added several of the naughtier verses.
If you Google Sam Sampson Stewart Island New Zealand, you'll find several links to Sam.
I haven't found an obit yet though.
