Thread Name: Lyr Req: I Ate the Boloney (Harry Lee)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Ate the Boloney (Harry Lee)
My father used to sing the Baloney song to me in the late 30's. It started like this'

Oh, the country air is rich and rare
It stimulates the mind,
How I long to be there in the Morris chair
With the folks I left behind.
I used to plow and milk the cows,
And now and then I'd stop,
To listen to the guys, who were telling lies,
In the good old barber shop.

OH, I remember a story; I remember a story, and now this little story I'm going to tell to you: There were three men who got lost in the woods and it was dark and lonely. All their food gave out except one piece of baloney. Someone shouted I've got a knife??????????????? But one said "I suggest we all go to sleep and the one who has the best dream - he wins the baloney." They awoke in the morning and told their dream and said it deserved to be chosen but one man said "Wait a minute I went to sleep and dreamt we died and went to heaven and saw Saint Peter" and he tells the two men he thought they died so when he woke up, he said "I ate the baloney."

We always sang this song when dad would take us driving on Sundays and when we passed by a farm where fresh manure was spread we'd start singing the verse Oh, the country air etc. I've got all the lyrics right for the verse and then I just remember the jest of the rest of the song, I always felt so sorry for the two men who woke up to find the one man had decided to eat the baloney. By the way I used to listen to this song on our old Victrola. So somewhere out there someone might still have the record.
