It's been pretty cold here in the Sierra Nevada Foothills the last few days. I keep telling people I'm going to move to California, where it's warm and the sun shines all the time. Hey, wait...I'm IN California.

Last night, we got the biggest snowfall since I moved here to the Foothills seven years ago - four to six inches, I'd say. People back home in Wisconsin wouldn't think that's much, but it makes for very treacherous driving in our rugged terrain. If I could just get up and down my driveway, it wouldn't be bad - but there's a layer of ice under the snow on the drive.

Our trees are covered with thick, heavy snow, and it's beautiful. I'm going to have to prune around the electric and power lines to keep us connected to the outside world.

But it sure is beautiful.
