I'm sure it's my guiatr player prejudice, but I much prefer the warmer sound of the Octave Mandolin to the Bouzouki. They can be tuned and played the same - but the Octave is prettier sounding, to my ear.

I do like the 5 and 6 course zooks, though - I suppose because they have lower strings, so more low end.
