Subject: RE: Stuff to do in Tennessee
Tenneessee is long and narrow and filled with all kinds of things to do. While Shiloh has some interesting history I'd consider Chickamauga is a lot moreso and an even greater battlefield to visit (just south of Chattanooga).. To get there I'd spend some serious time in Memphis of course, a home for Blues and the home of Rockabilly, where I'd also visit Mud Island and the Peabody Hotel ducks!

Then it'd be up to Nashville with all it offers in Country Music and its past and ongoing history from the Ryman to Music Row to the new Opryland and a hundred great clubs. But heading down toward Chattanooga, pull in at Murfreesboro and vist the infamous Stone River battlefield, especially notable as it was a battle fought in the winter. Across Monteagle and into Chattanooga for a visit to one of the few Freshwater Aquariums anywhere (and a really great one at that) beofre you have a meal at the Choo-Choo. Better yet, spend the night in one of the railroad cars which are converted into hotel rooms and don't miss the huge glass dome in the station.

Then take a drive up Lookout Mountain for some perspective on the Battle of Chattanooga and Missionary Ridge before you drive on down to Chickamauga. BTW, if you know many Civil War songs, take out your instruments and sing and play some as you travel around the battlefield.....You'll always draw a few folks around.

Then if you take I75 north thru Knoxville, just a few miles up past there you'll come to the Museum of Appalachia which at first you might think is a tourist trap but you couldn't be farther from the truth. Its a great place and a labor of love that also hosts a homecoming music fest that is second to none.

And over in the corner of the state you find an area of Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina that has more music and music history than you can shake Doc Watson's guitar or Frank Proffitt's banjo at.

How much time ya' got and where do you wanna' start? Did I mention Oak Ridge? LOL....{;<))
