Thread Name: Music: Police and Striking Miners
Subject: RE: Music: Police and Striking Miners
Coming from Sheffield we did see a lot of the action one way and another.

Two abiding memories. The first one may be apochryphal but it is a good story. And relevant to the thread.

One snowy day the miners at Bolton on Dearne built a snowman in the shape of a policeman with a helmet on top. A particularly nasty inspector called Nesbitt ordered them to knock it down. When they refused he personally drove a car into it. They hadn't mentioned the concrete post it was built around.

"The miners built a snowman and Nesbitt kncked it down" x3 to the tune of John Brown's Body and sorry - I don't have a last line.

A long time afterwards when the miners at Orgreave who WERE prosecuted finally came to court the manipulation of the video images led to the cases being dropped. They showed the miners throwing missiles and the police chasing them. The sequence of actual events was preecisely the opposite to that.

Of all the people there at Orgreave not one single person was ever convicted of an offence. That includes the police in full riot gear battoning unprotected people.

I just know which side I was on.
