You probably don't know, Valmai, but years ago, before that partition was put up, and when The Sussex Pistols were first formed, we used to do monthly dances in that room at the Elephant. In fact one, of my favourite band stories comes from that time......

We were doing a big Christmas dance there and during the interval, there was a large crowd at the bar and amongst them, waiting to be served was our accordion player, Bing Lyle.

He heard a voice behind him saying, "Hey! That's Bing."

And then another voice said, "He's a really great singer, you know!"

Bing didn't turn round, but he did think to himself, "I might get a drink bought for me here....."

And then it registered with him what was being played on the pub's music system..... I'm dreaming of a White Christmas.....
