Subject: Tech: Linux and midi
I have recently bought an Acer Aspire One netbook with Linux preloaded.

It's a great little computer but it does not play midi files - I don't think there is either the hardware or software to do so because when I clicked on a midi link in a web page, it simply identified it as a binary file and asked what I should do with it.

I am looking for a midi synthesiser which will support the basic general midi standard- it will have to be a software one - and a player to play the files. Nothing fancy needed just to be able to play midi files so as they sound reasonable though I would like a player I can run from the desktop.

Any suggestions welcome.
