In the phrase, 'a train of doozy layoffs, well know to us all, the 'bos accommodations called the Wabash Cannonball.' I naturally assumed that 'layoff' referred to a railcar on a sidetrack,(which could have been a luxurious private car or a boxcar) but I haven't been able to find an actual source that uses 'lay-off' that way. I need to know before it's too late. Incidentally, there is a wonderful website put up by a guy named J.Nixon that has many beautiful pictures of railroad cars. Just google railroad cars J. Nixon and you'll find it. Was Paul Durst any kin to the comedian Will Durst?
