Hot-melt glue will stick cardboard, particularly corrugated board, very well indeed, should you wish to make new boxes. Not pretty, though.

As I remember, the boxes were heavy card with a paper overlay. As you have about 300 to do, perhaps a production line on the kitchen table? Most of the small boxes I've seen lately seem to be very poor quality.
