A "modern singer-songwriter" is merely a description of performing one's own compositions.
Similarly, a "singer of traditional songs" performs music from a tradition.
They are different.
The Young Tradition was a 60s revivalist a capella band, whereas the "New Tradition" is a wholly contradictory, meaningless term coined by MLC to make a non-existent point, just in case she ceases to be the centre of attention (ha!)
It's very hard to pinpoint what a performer of a not exclusively traditional repertoire on a number of instruments could learn from a songwriter.
A workshop could be done on it, though. Ask the participants what they want to learn about then demonstrate something else entirely. A new and entirely useless genre of performance art.
Gawd, I feel so . . . tired.
