In the list of threads, the number of posts in the thread is shown to the right of the title. When a thread has more than 50 posts, the "number of posts" turns into a "clicky" and when you click it you get only the first 50 posts. In the page for the first 50, there will be a link to the next 50, or to other "pages of 50 posts" that the thread may contain.

Next to the number of posts, if the number has been "clickified" there will be a small letter "d." If you click on the "d" you'll get the last 50 posts in reverse order, with links to previous "pages of 50 posts."

The "50 post pages" are appropriate for people on dial-up, since usually even a slow connection (or a computer with limited memory) can download that large a page without annoying delay. With a high speed connection, it probably presents a comparable "server load" to just open threads up to a hundred, or a couple of hundred, posts in one page by clicking the thread title, since "opening in pages" means you have to make another separate connection (or two or three) to go to the page you want.

The "little d" lists posts in reverse order so you have to scroll down (and sometimes go to a different page) to find the post that a person is replying to. That really is only appropriate for the MOAB thread, since the only people posting there (the last time I looked a year or two ago) are typically the ones who never read the post they're answering anyway. ... ...
