Liz, I have a very large yard and in back it is mostly turf. When I mow, especially after a period of moisture and lush lawn growth, I'll end up with an array of birds arriving (they recognize the sound of the mower, no doubt, or the smell of freshly-mown lawn) and are usually behind and beside me, and will stay within a few feet, hoping to be first in line to pounce on bugs left exposed by the mower.

My pit bull would watch the birds and figured out what they're doing. She also loves to eat bugs, katydids are a favorite, so it is this strange drama of the birds looking for bugs and the dog watching the birds and occasionally rushing in to take a bug from a bird. I guess you could say the dog is mugging the birds. :)
