There was, in the late 1940s or early 50s, a similar device, marketed in the US with Arthut Godfrey's name, to do that with a uke. Maybe six chord? So, if the uke itself were plastic, you COULD do that in the bath, but more than once. A wood instrument, of course, not so often...
