I reckon they thought that even before our (English, Irish and Dutch, in my case) ancestors moved their bags in. Captain Cook's journal, 1770, speaking of when he tried a bit of the old "trading a few glass beads for something valuable" trick, he reckons that "They did not want for anything that we had and only wanted us to go away."
