I was quite happy to see this thread, since I really believe that there's got to be a wealth of French shanty material out there largely unknown to American shanty singers. This one, however, appears to be a modern translation/adaptation by Hughes Aufrey, not a bona fide relic of French shanty singing. So, you French Mudcatters out there, can you point us to any traditional French shanties? I'd really love to hear some.
