Jet Blue flies between Denver and Boston four times a day: a couple of nonstops, the others via JFK in New York. Fares range from $129 to $159 per round trip (depending upon day of the week, etc.), same price for adults and kids.
If this is sufficiently cheaper than your alternatives, it might be worth the extra trouble of driving all the way to Boston.
Yeah, I know, you have to drive to and through Boston to get to Logan Airport, which is a drag. Maybe there's a way to make that hop by rail rather than car ~ ??
JetBlue also flies in and out of Hyannis, Nantucket, the Vineyard, and P-town, but not Providence or anywhere in Connecticut. I wouldn't think any of those airports would help you. Also, you'd probably have to fly via Boston anyway, probably changing planes for a small island-hopper to a full-size transcontinental jet, and payng extgrga for the privilege.
I know the airline had a couple of bad days and got some bad press last year, but my family and I have been flying JetBlue between New York and New Orleans for years and recommend it highly. Every seat has its own TV and headset, the snacks are OK (better than a lot of reheated airplane-food "full meals"), and they also allow (even encourage) you to bring your own meal on board. Most folks who carry their lunch have something they bought on the airport concourse, but I can't see any reason why you couldn't bring something from home.

JetBlue internet info is available only through their own website ~ never on Travelocity, etc. The same is true of Southwest, another inexpensive choice. You might also check Continental; before JetBlue, Continental often had the lowest fare New Orleans to Newark, whenever Southwest wasn't better.
