If you grew up with Depression-era parents, you saw this kind of behavior in action, learned during years when you didn't throw stuff out automatically, you adapted it for reuse or you repaired it. I think some of that thinking came through without the context of rationing and shortage being in place and resulted in people not being able to discard those useful objects. I know I recognize many of those statements. It's why I try to recycle and not just fill up a landfill. I know there are consequences of filling up landfills, and if we reuse things we discourage the production of new, the mining of resources, the growing of materials that all may not be necessary.

It's sorting out all of these impulses and finding sound information that is so useful in learning to de-clutter.

I checked the post office mail today and the last of the tax forms arrived. I hadn't managed to track down all of this information online, but there is no excuse, I need to do the taxes tomorrow and get them into the mail. I wanted to do them in January, and I have that one day left.
