Becky, they are trampling the nice green bits. "They" are yuppies, who want to live in the country and manage to bring the worst of the city with them, mostly in the form of traffic jams and obnoxious behavior. The pinelands are preserved, fortunately, and will never be built up.

As for "Born to Run", it's a pretty depressing song, and only represents the worst parts of the state. Every state has a part that the residents wish wasn't there. A state song should be one that anyone can sing. Rock songs don't fall into that category.
