Can anyone think of any (however small) benefits from the cannabis laws(prohibition)?

Well, the fact that it's illegal does make growing it a highly profitable enterprise. If it were suddenly to be legalized, the economies of a couple of northern California counties would implode. The student population of U. Cal. Berkley would drop by 75% 'cause none of the parents financing their kids' educations by growing pot would be able to afford tuition.
