For the very few who make it big, both rock and folk music pay extremely well. For the rest of us....Ha!!! ;-) We do it because we like it, not because of the money.

If your folk gigs are paying you better than the rock bands then I'd say stick with the folk gigs.

"Zimmerman" could have and would have made a fortune whether or not he ever started playing rock music. Trust me. His extraordinary songwriting skills and his general savvy and adaptability guaranteed it...given the social conditions that existed at the time. Timing can be everything.

God knows what would happen to someone like him now, born into these days of TV-dominated crap like American Idol...but he was perfectly placed in time in the early 60s to do what he did. There was an opening there, and he fit the bill to a T. You cannot beat great talent combined with absolutely perfect timing. Same went for the Beatles and the Stones and the others who made it big back then. Their timing was right on, and they had what it took.

The mass media entertainment scene now is so sick and phony and empty in comparison that I don't much like even thinking about it.
