Well Boberz, the guy who played the keyboard comes in from Colorado, and I'll grant you that I saw a lot more of that wild weed there a few years back than seems to be growing around my neighborhood.

An uncle did try growin' some of it back when it was being pushed by the government as a replacement for other stuff they used to make ropes for the wartime navy. So far as I know it never did really catch on as a cash crop here.

He claimed that the crop failed 'cause the stuff just wasn't suitable for the climate here, but most of us pretty well knew that just about every crop - of every kind - that he ever planted pretty much failed.

(I could put in a comment about the crop of kids - my cuzzins - he more or less raised on that old rocky-bottom-alkali-flat farm, but I guess that's probably not necessary.)
