Still not over. They've just been given permission to appeal, though at least they've been allowed out of jail for the time being. Here is a link to a story with a good picture>.
But who can tell what goes through the minds of judges? This appeal is based on the fact that the judge misdirected the jury about what they could take into account. But what astonishes me is the way juries don't realise that they are quite entitled to reject any and everything that a judge advises or recommends or even instructs them to do.
