As you say, better now than later, esp. if he has been abusive. Even when it all seems right and goes well, it may not work out; then it seems much harder. And, I've learned through experience, the best thing we can do is be there to listen. It doesn't seem adequate and we do want to fix it, but we've also raised them to be independent and make their own decisions and learn from them, so we listen and we hope and we give thanks for their well-being and things will work out sometimes in unexpected ways beyond our wildest imagination (in a good way!)

When I get worried about my kids, I try to remember this:

Right here, right now
All is well, and
We* are safe and sound.
