Oh wow. The boys up at the Legion Hall are staying up late and making all manner of preparations (H, that is). UNfortunately, one of 'em set off fireworks-just as a test to make sure they worked ok, mind you, and a spark set the thatch on the roof aflame, which in turn sent sparks flying into the uncovered barrel of "white liquor" that had just been poured off, which then ignited with a very loud bang, which blew up the the big, home-made, 40 gallon steel barrel bar-b-que where some of the boys was already roasting the hog for the surprise pig-pickin' they was a'plannin to celebrate Rap having survived another year of philosophizing on MOAB, not to mention another year of general moral decreptitude.

All is not lost, however, as the crepe streamers somehow have so far managed to remain unscathed and Shane McBride just showed up with 20 others just like him, all of 'em drunk, minimal cuts and bloody gashes, all things considered, and bladders full of Iron City. Right this very minute they are putting that recycled Iron City to good use to stem the flames scorching the pig, and they may also have managed to save a little of the white liquor, which one of the Legionaires has determinedly bottled and will save for a birthday present for Rapaire.

That is, of course, assuming he does not arrive on the morrow rattling his rapier in one hand, and holding out a hat to solicit funds for the library in the other.
