Unknown Merle Travis was in San Quentin for three years for robbing a Tavern in Bakersfield and legend has it that when Johnny Cash did the show there in 1958, Merle was inspired to write the great song "Sing me back home" and that also put Merle on the almost straight and narrow on his release.
