Just guessing that you're using the "network connector" ... since you shouldn't need a browser for setup with the other kinds.

If that's the case, the first question is whether the computer is set up to be networked. Even if it's just one computer and one printer, you normally would want at least an ethernet "bridge" or a router between them to keep track of which is talking and which one should be listening - even if only one talks.

To use the network connection, the printer has to have an address, and the computer has to know what the address is. Most such printers can print a "test page" that will tell you what the current printer address is. Common methods are to press and hold a button until something blinks, or to hold a button down while the printer is turned on.

If you enter the printer's address, something like 1.192.168.100, into your browser, it should connect. Printer setup is then sort of like an "editable web page." A common problem is failing to save the page before exiting.

It the friends setup is really simple, it might be preferable to use a different input (serial/parallel/USB?) so that the browser isn't involved in the setup.
