In Prague, during the Communist days, a Western tourist was impressed by how everyone in the cafes was reading obscure books, talking about the daring theatre scene, the men in the park playing chess at grandmaster level. He turns to his Czech friend sitting beside him and says: "In North America we are all idiots. We watch stupid sitcoms and read People magazine. Why is everyone in your country so intellectual?"
The friend replies: "Motorboats".
The tourist, baffled, says: "Motorboats?"
"Yes," his friend says, "We don't have any."
