Hello- Kenners here! Notorious at last!
SWEET PIPPIN
(Bob Kenward)
Good apple, she's my heart's delight,
I'll pick no peach or pear,
And pippin she's the queen of all
And that I do declare
Maid Grieve she bruises when you pick
She's tender to the core
Dame Laxton seasons as she will
She'll give none or a store
Aunt Worcester she's the rosy cheeks
As red as blushing maid
But though her flesh is white as snow
She's sharp as any blade
Delicious is her name, it's true
She's golden on the tree
But she's no taste at all, oh no
She'll get no gold from me
Sweet Orange Pippin on the bough
She's tender and she's shy
If she'll consent the season's fair
I'll pick her by and by
There's also a newer Appling song which works through the fruitsman's year-- please PM me if you'd like any more info/tune/ or even the broadsheet/ CD... -over the years I've written many songs about the Garden of England, and it's always good to hear them being sung
Cheers
Bob
