now I can answer my own question:

I saw you at the Curragh, in the County Kildare
where you flew like a dream with your long black hair.

Then I saw you on Airdrie and at Doncaster too
I knew the Gold Cup it was waiting for you

And I had a big grin when you walked round that ring
And me just a punter, sure I knew you would win

A burning desire, how I felt it inside
When I looked at you sure you filled me with pride

And the race course was crowded when the punters came in
Down there at Cheltenham to see who would win.

No, I didn't worry, no, I didn't care
I put all my money upon the black mare.

And the starter he shouted, stay back from the line!
The black mare from Ireland sure I knew she was fine.

And oh how we shouted as she crossed the line
She was the first in the Gold Cup and the winner was mine
