Thread Name: Playing with Others
Subject: Playing with Others
Today I played music with another person for the first time in (literally) years. It was the most fun I've had since I can't remember when. I have also acquired two little recorder students, 5 and 7 years of age.

Their mother is one of my best and oldest friends, but we've hardly ever played music together. Apparently, she has accompanied me singing, but I don't remember this. Mostly, I accompanied myself on the guitar. Today I played the recorder and she played the piano.

Her middle little girl has been wanting to play the recorder and I gave her a little impromptu lesson when she came in with her recorder after we finished playing. I also showed her how to clean the recorder and grease the joints. During the "lesson", her big sister came and joined in. When my friend drove me home, she asked whether I'd considered giving music lessons. I said, I'd give them to her children, but otherwise didn't want to. She agreed immediately! Now I can put all my theories of early childhood musical education into practice.

My friend also wants us to play again, which is also nice. I think unaccompanied recorder might not go over too well at an open mike night, which is something I'd like to do in the not-too-distant future.
