Thread Name: Tech: What is Yahoo Briefcase? Legit?
Subject: Tech: What is Yahoo Briefcase? Legit?
In one of my Yahoo email accounts (but not the other) I have the following message:

Dear Yahoo! Briefcase user,

We will be officially closing Yahoo! Briefcase on March 30, 2009. Until then, we are offering you the opportunity to download your files back to your computer. You will need to take action before we close, after which any files remaining on Yahoo! Briefcase will be deleted and no longer accessible.

To access your Yahoo! Briefcase account, click the link below:

[I am re-typing this so it's not a polluted paste]: http://briefcase.yahoo.com

This URL is what also shows in my status bar when I hover the cursor over it.   Heading is "Yahoo Briefcase Is Closing - Action Required"

Needless to say, I did not click on the link, and I have never even HEARD of Yahoo Briefcase so I don't see how I can have one. I don't know if it means I have to worry about the stuff I have stored in my email folders being lost because they are dumping everything, or if this is just one of those scare-scams that try to manipulate you. Nor do I like any subject heading that demands Action.

Has anyone else come across this? Is it legit or scumware? It looks legit, Yahoo logos and all, but I don't like the smell. Also it didn't appear in the email programme I use the most. What IS Yahoo Briefcase? Can you have it and not know it (like certain diseases)? Help!
