I wish I still had my (1966?) copy of the British magazine "CAR" in which Doug Blain did a road test comparison between a Pontiac GTO and Henry Manney III's Ferrari GTO. It's the most outrageously funny piece of car journalism I've ever read, with some fantastic photos.

The article started as a parody of "The Sot-Weed Factor" by John Barth and the first few lines were on the cover (well it was the 60's.) Blain made great play of the Pontiac being a total pussycat until the loud pedal was pressed down more than a certain amount, when a banshee howl came from under the bonnet and loud chirps from the rear tyres, signalling the necessity for handfuls of steering wheel to be grabbed instantly.

Later they road tested a Mk 1 Toronado! I can only presume that the magazine used to wine and dine importers pretty well to be able to get hold of these vehicles in the UK.

Anybody know what happened to Blyne? (He was Australian)
