Thread Name: Lyr Add: ChiefSeattle/Sealth/sial Earth
Subject: Lyr Add: ChiefSeattle/Sealth/siʔaɬ EarthDay round
Yesterday I posted at BaptistLife.com a post concerning a round, appropriate for Earth Day, that I translated from Esperanto (whence it came via German from Ted Perry's retelling of Henry Smith's embellishment of earlier paraphrases of Chief Seattle's 1854 remark). (Note that while what Stilly River Sage says about the purported speech of Chief Seattle is generally true, this particular snippet is (if only because it actually responds to the question that was put in the 1854 council) likely to be as close as can be got now to Seattle's actual remark. The semantic field of whatever morphed into "holy" in English was, however, probably quite different from anything an English-speaker would think of. I don't have high hopes that "siʔaɬ" will survive the Mudcat's font-leveling mechanism any more than his comment survived the transculturation, alas. But anyhow, speaking of "Lyr Add", here is the text of the round:

1 Every part of the earth
    2 is for us holy.
3 Every part of the earth
               4 is for us holy.

(in Esperanto,

1 Ĉiu part' de la tero
    2 estas al ni sankta.
3 Ĉiu part' de la tero
4 estas al ni sankta. )

Midis: single part - all four together
