Germans do things to keep memory alive. On the Franco-German tv channel "Arte" there's a weekly program called "Les mercredis de l'histoire" / "Geschichte am Mittwoch" (there's no English version of the site). It's mostly about WW II though it may be about other recent conflicts.
About the German woman "Zis is all your fault..." you can't prevent people from being stupid. If we ever knew the way to do that, mankind and the world wouldn't be in the state they're in!
