Get a job or a work situation where you have control over your own thoughts. This made my 'minimum wage + a bit' (and last ever job) tolerabe right up to retirement.

Despite the low income the situation was fine for composing songs, letters to the local press etc; and I could choose to either put stock away in a quiet corner or near one of several colleagues, when I wanted a chat or discussion on music/current affairs and - dare I say it - Sport.
