Liz, we've just about gotten rid of the knotweed here on our farm. It was planted a couple of generations ago in this case, to "give Grandmother's chickens some shade" according to the elderly lady who grew up here.

The young shoots may be eaten like asparagus. We've dug and mown the patch to death.
