Thread Name: Old Fart Songs
Subject: RE: Old Fart Songs
It's rather interesting that "When You and I Were Young, Maggie" was written by a man in his early twenties for his 19-year-old fiancee who was dying of tuberculosis.

I don't think I saw a mention of John Prine's "Hello In There."

And, of course, there is "Grammaw's in the Cellar":

Oh, Grammaw's in the cellar
Oh, Lordy, can't you smell her
Bakin' biscuits on her damned old dirty stove
In her eye there is some matter
That keeps dripping in the batter
And she whistles while the (sniff) runs down her nose

Down her nose
Down her nose
Yes, she whistles while the (sniff) runs down her nose
In her eye there is some matter
That keeps dripping in the batter
And she whistles while the (sniff) runs down her nose
