I suspect that many of the Irish performers picked up this haunting song from the singing of Frank Harte, as I did, over a decade ago at Augusta, in West VA. Though I'm an autoharp player, I prefer this acapella with lots of room for harmony on the refrain. (though it does sound wonderfully mournful on the bowed psaltry)

In my memory, Frank repeated the line: "One, I love. Two, he loves. Three, he's true to me" so that it was sung twice at the end of each verse

I'm not sure anymore if this is so... but it is how I remember it.
