I'm very sorry to hear this news: my sympathy to his family. He very generously shared his knowledge and enthusiasm, and his erudition will be much missed. He had a great knack for disentangling some hoary myths about folk songs and folklore and crisply laying out the known facts. He was a man of many parts; he drew some rather good cartoons for a Manchester United fanzine. Rest in peace, Malcolm.
